Saying no is the most important design tool we have, and the hardest one to use.

Every yes has a cost.

A new feature isn’t just the time it takes to build. It’s another thing to explain, another thing that can break, another thing between a person and the moment they came for. We try to count those costs honestly.

Our three filters.

Before anything new goes into an app, it has to pass three questions:

  • Does it make the core moment better, or just bigger?
  • Would we miss it if it disappeared tomorrow?
  • Can we explain it in one sentence?

Most ideas don’t make it through. That’s not a failure. It’s the system working.

Scope is a kindness, to users and to us.

From our studio notebook

No, for now.

We keep a list called Not yet. Good ideas go there to wait. Some of them come back years later when the timing is right. Most of them quietly stay there, and the apps are better for it.
